Gardening
Our summer holiday this class was to Lago di Garda , or Lake Garda , in northerly Italy . It ’s not an area we ’ve been to before , France being our usual summer holiday haunt . It ’s inordinately beautiful , the heap , lake and sunshine making a knock - out combination .
We had a adorable fortnight and secretive to the goal of the trip I managed to sneak away for a few hours to confab theHeller Gardensin Gardone , a few miles down the shore from our holiday house . Gardone is illustrious topically for its terraced garden , the Heller Gardens pose just back from those .

The gardens are in the grounds of a private sign of the zodiac , cover a pretty succinct 2 acres , or so . There is a helluva ( Heller - va ? ) lot ram into this space , with unlike zones host planting from different portion of the earth . The gardens are named after Andre Heller , the owner of the house since 1989 , an outside artist . The gardens were in the first place develop by the first owner of the place , Arturo Hruska . I wo n’t attempt to give an exhaustive tour , nor am I dependant to pontificate about what was unspoilt or bad about how it was put out , but I can give you the highlighting of my sojourn , the thing that appealed to me most .
Fair word of advice , there are a lot of photos in this berth – I hope your broadband is well oiled !
As might be await of a garden this long time , much of the planting is very well established . Near the entry there is a louche bamboo grove , with some telling looking clump of enormous bamboo . I ’ve never visualize them in the wilderness , but this is how I imagine they look . We were just miss a giant panda for the full effect .

They are very tall , and one can very quickly see how bamboo can be press into avail as scaffold rod – they are a very substantial size . I particularly wish the manner the shiny summer luminance shines through the grove .
It was mid August when I impose . I was a little surprised to detect that not a groovy deal was flower . There were plenty of plants that were bloom , scattered about , but I suppose I just thought it would be a floral extravanganza , given the mood .

Perhaps it was a timing issue , perhaps April to June are peak flower there . Or perhaps the owner prefers to major on manakin and foliage – there is some grounds to suggest that might be the showcase , but more on that subsequently .
I was so busy wander around hold up “ ooh ” and “ aah ” that I forgot to pay much attention to plant labels . You ’ll just have to go yourself .
The garden has many statues and artistry installing dotted around the gardens .

I ’m afraid the adolescent in me could n’t help particularly liking the priapic goat .
Adding to the general feel of botanic abundance were a phone number of plants drop from the trunks of tree and other protuberances .
I do n’t sleep with how one-time this wisteria is but it is yuuuge ! The central trunk in the pictures belongs to the legion tree , but everything else belong to its rider . I can only think how brilliant this looks before in the year when I assume it is in flower . It ’s a rightfully telling thing , ready the 7 year old wisteria in my back garden look definitely lank .

As a extremely amateur nurseryman with a basic but developing idea of what make a good plant , it was something of an eye opener to see the impact of varying Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe of plants , form and coloration of their leaves and the dividing line of the same between plants .
I need to lend more foliage plant at home .
I was surprised by how well the garden apply height for effect . This is in truth a three - dimensional garden , where the garden stretches well above a traditional delimitation tallness . This is achieved through both planting and topography . I ’m not sure if the hills and careen - outcroppings , all to a great extent planted , are by artificial means placed or just part of the original landscape painting , but the effect is pleasing .

There are a number of situation where precarious looking paths are provided to clamber up to the top of said outcroppings . This leave both a closer look and a more panoramic view of the surroundings .
I ’ll finish off with some germ heads .
There ’s a great deal cram in to the two acres , over 3000 plants evidently . I enjoyed my visit , I hope you enjoyed my recollections and a sampling of the photos I took on the day .

I ’ll be back shortly with more garden frill .
