It seems like each and every yr   –   we observe ourselves   write a Sunday Farm Update about changes to the garden .

Our garden has change   a lot since those first vegetable seedling start into the ground   in the Spring of 2011 . It   has always been and will always be a work in progress as we continue to bring a few labor , experiments and varieties each growing time of year .

The center path in our garden added last year

Through all of the changes though , one affair has stay on the same – our conjure up quarrel garden provides us with tight to 3/4 of our family ’s food each year – and for that fact alone – it ’s our favorite stead at the farm .   That is why we each year , we continue to create new projects for the space.(see : Creating unsubdivided raise row garden )

Our very   first garden in the summer of 2011 comprise of just 12 raised words made from chaff and topsoil .   By the final stage of the year , we had added a compost binful and a post and board fence to the front .

2012   brought a second stage set of growing rows and   in 2013 , we added a corn crib for holding rip up leaves – and a 2nd water tank . 2014 brought the addition of blueberries and strawberries – and in 2015 we added a center walkway , raised beds for our smaller crops and mulch to all of the walking rows .

So that bring us to 2016 – and the yr we finally move to the farm ! I ’m not certain it has quite “ sunk in ” yet to both of us that we will in reality be living there this yr ! But in addition to that craziness , we still plan on making some sport and exciting changes to the garden . After all , variety is good – it keeps you growing and think !   So here is what we have cooking for this twelvemonth ’s garden redesign :

The 2016 Garden Redesign

Adding A Rain Water / Drip Irrigation System

We have always water our garden by hand with rainwater collect from the barn and corn cribbage roof . The set - up has worked well for us over the last five years – peculiarly since we have never had a well on the property!(see : How to easy collect   pelting weewee )

The drip irrigation outfit we will use to water the upper garden .

garden redesign

We use two large 275 gal lug tank to collect the water , and from there , just filled weewee jugs or seize a hosepipe to water where needed . The sobriety of the cooler above the garden has always provided more than enough pressure .

This year we hope to make thing even   more simple   We are going to experiment by add a drip irrigation system of rules to the tanks . As a test , we are go to add it to the upper garden portion – but   if it forge as planned , we will link the whole garden to it next year .

The system of rules requires no power and is feed wholly by gravity . We but touch base the water storage cooler that baby-sit above the garden to a serial of principal feed lines that go down the upper row . From there , the water system is dripped slowly out of water band that go around each works – providing the water each   industrial plant need . All we need to do is turn the holding tank tap on or off – and the lachrymation is done !

The Weaver Kwik-Kit that we will be building as our Garden Shed

The Garden Shed Addition

The Weaver Kwik - Kit that we will be building as our Garden Shed

This is the project we are most excited for !

garden redesign

We have always wanted to add a little garden and potting shed aright near the garden . Not only would it be great to have all of our tools and supplies nearby – but I think it will really “ complete ” the look of the garden .

Weaver Barns , who is build the frame of our farm home has come out with a new DIY / shed kit . They have asked Mary and I if we would be willing to put one together at the farm and shoot it as a trial . And of course – we jumped at that probability !

We are going to sum up the garden shed to the back   of the garden region , and install a gutter on it as well to help feast the rain barrel . By the way – appease tuned next hebdomad –   there is a DIY barn kit contest give - a - direction coming from Weaver – and we ca n’t wait to announce it!(Weaver Barns )

The fencing screen panels we built from 2 x 4’s and cattle panels.  We hope to use these to fence around the garden.

add Fence Panels …

This project is one that we have want to fill out for two years   – and   this is finally the year it gets carry through !

The fencing CRT screen panels we built from 2 x 4 ’s and oxen panels .   We hope to use these to fence around the garden .

garden redesign

A few years back ,   we created two large 6 1/2′   decorative fencing material panels at the edge of the b . We made the section from Bos taurus control board and 2 x 4 ’s – and loved the facial expression so much that we have wanted to add them around the garden ever since !

They are cheap to make when compared to other fence options , light to ramp up – and should really match up well with the young garden shed .

Although we are favourable enough not to experience too much trouble with animals   –   the added tallness will also   sure enough help to dissuade cervid   and smaller animals with the fencing material at the bottom .

So with the weather turning warmer today – I guess it ’s time for us to get busy !   Happy Gardening ! – Jim and Mary
