As in something that just would n’t store our jars filled with our garden ’s harvest , but would showcase the beaut and movement that goes into growing your own intellectual nourishment – and preserving it too !
And that is incisively why we create this canning locker to be wide - undefended . After all , can jars are beautiful , specially ones sate with home - originate garden produce .

Re-Creating A Classic – The New DIY Canning Jar Cabinet
For those who have succeed our web log since we start save about our picayune farm adventures back in 2011 , you may remember that one of our first projects was a canning pantry made from pallets .
Back then , the pantry was born out of pure necessity . We had our first large big harvesting , and we were displace and keep up like nobody ’s byplay !
In fact , so much so that we quickly make we were lead to need a simple , economical solvent for hive away all of the canning jars . And so our original canning buttery was born .
Our original canning cabinet we constructed from shipping pallets.
At the time , we had a fortune of pallets and pallet wood on hand . Using a framework made from a shipping crateful , we created the locker with an heart on sturdiness .
For years , it served our kinsperson well . With four teenager in the star sign , we fill it each summer and fall . And through dip , winter , and early spring , it lento empty with meal after meal.(See : Building A Canning Pantry From Pallets )
But when we built our new house at the farm in 2016 , the old cabinet simply did n’t fit . So in it ’s stead , we created built - in shelves in our buttery for our canning jars .
The shelving system work well enough for sure . But candidly , we hated not see to it the effort and ravisher of our crop all year long . And so , we decided to produce a new cabinet that would gibe in our current distance .
But this time , instead of close it in with side and a back , we decided to make it an open - showcase for our canning efforts . And I have to say , it has apace become our favorite piece of “ piece of furniture ” in the planetary house !
It has the same sturdiness of our original canning pantry console , but with so much more show space . In plus , the open position make getting to the jars so much easier .
The cabinet holds a lot of jars, But even better, you can see them!
Even better , even if you do n’t have enough canned goods to fill it , it is a great property to store other canned or dry good as well . And who ca n’t practice more larder space ?
The locker measure 60″ tall , 24″ mystifying , and 30″ wide . And with ( 4 ) shelves and a sturdy top , it can hold a lot of canned goods . In fact , each shelf holds up to ( 48 ) dry pint jars , ( 35 ) quart shock or ( 55 ) 1/2 pint jars .
And with subject incline and a 10 ° angled top shelf , it ’s work up to showcase them in mode ! The top ledge can of grade be left flat if desired , but it really does help to showcase a portion of the jars .

The total canning jar locker systema skeletale and shelving frames are created from 2×4 ’s . 2×4 ’s just make so much sense to build with . In fact , most of our DIY programme start with 2×4 ’s as the basal material .
Not only are they stinting and plentiful , but can easily be sand or routed , and paint & stained into beautiful piece . But most of all , 2×4 ’s are also incredibly strong . And it is that forcefulness that weigh most when it comes to carry canning jar !
The cabinet can be built with basic tools, and goes together fairly quick. We used a router on our 2×4 edges to give a bit more detail.
