Jay wrote to apportion a account of eatable breeze potatoes :

Greetings from the big island of Hawaii .

Around here there are these vine growing with very beautiful leaves and melodic phrase potatoes rise on them . My landlady differentiate me they are comestible so I cooked a few and they were blistering , and I read that they were toxic . She omitted that part . Also , that the plant life are invading … .. but the heart mold leave of absence are so pretty , I like them out my window .

Recently , booster had this very beautiful bighearted affair that they had pluck up at the wellness nutrient store with a three feet long trend green shank growing out the top . It was like a carving , like a Japanese person might put it in an alcove because of how peculiar it looks . It was magnanimous and dour brown and hard with odd interesting angle . The tegument was pretty with a scrap of a sheen and a second jolty . It was receive heavily and shrinking a bit so they feed it to me to plant . I drench it in H2O for a fleck since it was so hard and score the bottom too . Well , a month or more later on and it is vining up up up a Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and the leaves look like the other one with the light brown rounded bitter potato . That got me concerned that this one was n’t dissimilar so I google them and was SHOCKED to find that there are so many unlike types and some are comestible and some not and that there are permie types that are very passionate about them and even collect all type .

I happen upon a telecasting with you bind one that seems like the coolheaded one that I am growing . I do n’t know from where it originates and have seen that there are type that are called thing like- Steve ’s Hawaii or Jim ’s Hawaii so perhaps these guys are here on big island and this sculpturesque white potato is one of their … … … hybrids or something like that .

Here ’s the video Jay mentions :

edible dioscorea bulbifera

Jay keep :

Just thought I ’d compose you since you are holding a standardized one in the video and lecture about it being edible and not containing some “ parentage control ” toxin .

My response :

Yes – that body of work of artistic creation bulbil is a educate variety . The edible one are beautiful and angulate . Should be dead good to eat . Great breakthrough . One day I hope to grow them again . We lose mine when we move a few years ago .

Edible Air Potatoes

Online , I ’ve see some interesting other variety of edibleDioscorea bulbifera , like this one :

That case is very different from my angulate 1 , but is another eatable cultivar . Also , where is this strange island of half - clad men ? Italy ? Is that what all of Italy is like ? And is there a comparable place filled with charwoman ?

Okay , back to air Irish potato .

The non - edibleDiscorea bulbiferalook like this :

Much rounder . Sometimes they ’re more tan than that , almost lily-white . Sometimes darker . But always round to ellipse regulate , unlike the lovely eatable I .

I have been dun with my plans to originate these as a crop . It seems every time I get one and grow it up , I only get a few fruits in the first year – which I then habituate for planting livestock ; then later on finish up go and not being capable to take them with me . This happened when we leave Florida for the Caribbean and then again when we allow for the Caribbean and came to Alabama .

If you have any of the edible types or bonk of a reference , I ’d love to have them again . As Jay says , they are “ like a carving ” .

( by the bye , I ’m still ticked at UF forreleasing their dazed beetles to eat theD. bulbiferas . Come on , military man ! )
