Rio fill a float formative suitcase on the track .

Southern California is renowned for the hot , dry wind that blow here at various times of the yr , drying everything out and fanning brush fires in the Benny Hill . For the past week , these Santa Ana winds have been stern . Last weekend , we had record low temperatures . Today , in the heart of January , it was closely 90 academic degree Fahrenheit .

In increase to drying out my whisker and aggravate the chest coldness I managed to catch while freezing last weekend , the winds are draw things interesting around the farm .

First , there was the incident on the track . Lisa , who istraining my untested Spanish Mustang Rioto become a “ real ” horse , was ridingMilagro , my otherSpanish Mustang , and leading Rio aboard , on the track . Unlike most horses , mine do n’t seem to heed the lead . They take it stride . But that day on the track was particularly gainsay when a white , plastic shopping bag came floating toward them .

Lisa is used to ridingWarmblood horses , which are typically a mickle more in high spirits - strung than Spanish Mustangs , and she prepared for a spook . alternatively , the sawhorse stop and watched the floating ba as it come near and then vacillate decently in front of Rio . He looked at it with slap-up interest . Good matter I had bring in him tohelium balloonslast yr after I got some for my birthday !

Then , there are thechickens . Some of the wind gusts we ’ve had have been boisterous , send my terrace article of furniture skip across the yard . When these gusts descend , the chickens await like they are going to go down on away . Their feathers part down to the skin and they brace themselves so as not to topple over . It ’s really rather funny .

Two of my indoor cats like to examine to extend outside if someone opens the back door around dinnertime . What better style to say “ I ’m athirst ! ” than to run outside where the brush wolf lurk ? But since the wind start , several attempts to hunt outside have been thwarted . As soon as they pick up the wind whipping , they change their minds and run back into the firm .

The horse , of trend , get the worst of it since they are outside all the time . The Santa Ana ’s blow from the East , so on the windiest of days , all the horses brook with their head facing West , the malarky blister their tails . The heat is really the bigger issue for them since they have deep , winter coats . Milagro ’s hair is literally 3 inch blockheaded , which is great when it gets down to 34 degrees at night like it did last workweek . But today must have been wretched for him when it gain 90 degrees .

Local weather prognosticator are predict a few more day of this warmer weather , but I ca n’t expect for it to end . Although , I do like the fact that undesirable puddle in the backyard go away very quickly , and the horse ’ stalls are skillful and teetotal . I guess there really is a plus side to everything .
