Get pruning . other March is prime time for pruning just about anything , except spring - blooming shrubs or “ bleeder ” trees like maple ( Acerspp . and cvs . , Zones 3 - 9 ) , birch ( Betulaspp . and cvs . , Zones 2 - 9 ) , elm ( Ulmusspp . and cvs . , Zones 2 - 9 ) , and dogwood ( Cornusspp . and cvs . , Zones 3 - 9 ) . point up the loppers and have at it with blush wine ( Rosaspp . and cvs . , Zones 3 - 9 ) , butterfly stroke George H.W.
