SixOnSaturday
As I write this on Friday good afternoon , we are prognosticate all-night low of somewhere in the 0 - 2 deg c range , with light skies , so frost is a distinct possibility . I have taken prophylactic quantity , dress off the remaining Dahlia pinnata flush , they are now in a vase . I ’ve been off work all week , mostly spent pottering about in the garden , tidy up , cut back , weeding , shredding , composting , all the high distributor point . I have also been on visits to two gardens , Waterperry and Wisley . course , I grease one’s palms industrial plant in both places . Quite a few plants . Not trusted how that happened . Anyhow , time for Six on Saturday . Six thing , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a prime , foliage , wildlife , a pest , a weed , a favourite snatch of kit – anything at all . get together in !
My Six this week are from my garden visit .

1 – Scabiosa atropurpurea ‘ Burgundy Beau ’ . The scabiouses ( scabii ? ) I know are blue or maybe lilac , so I was concerned to see this dark red scabious at Waterperry .
2 – Aster ‘ Alma Potschke ’
Waterperry have a heap of aster of various stripes in their herbaceous borderline . Annoyingly , we were about a week recently with our visit , the bully majority of them had go over already . There were enough to be interesting though , and some clues as to how fantastic it would have looked just a couple of week back . Alma here was one of several varieties still at it . She is mildew resistant , being of the New England suasion . I did buy a couple of asters in the shop , but not one of these , they were deal out .

3 – Clematis tangutica ‘ Bill Mackenzie ’ . These seed heads had such a sheen on them in the late fall temperateness . Some of that is seeable in the photo , but they were a lot shinier in the bod .
4 – Miscanthus sinensis ‘ Flamingo ’ . I am increasingly mindful of the desirability of extending the time period of interest in the garden into the latter part of the yr . This pot is a good example . It can be left till the spring before rationalise back to make room for new growth . In the meantime the golden theme and the wispy tops can be enjoyed . I read an article today on weed with winter interest and this was the top of the listing . like I ’d buy one .
5 – Trapaeolum tuberosum var . lineamaculatum . This fella was in the Exotic Garden at Wisley . It looks appropriately tropical , but in fact it will tolerate winter conditions in the south of England or other modest corner . If you may result your dahlias in the ground , this will likely be fine too , otherwise the Tuber need lifting and storing over the wintertime . It ’s a mounter , growing to about 2 m. It ’s a full cousin of the typical nasturtium , and I for one would much rather have this . I ’m rifle to look out for seeded player .

6 – Amsonia hubrichtii . Another flora that does a second shift in the autumn . At Wisley there were gravid swathe of this , and other genus Amsonia varieties . They blossom with footling blue stars , pretty enough I ’m indisputable , but the plant fades away into a golden shimmer . It ’s quite somethingen masse shot . Seeking to achieve a similar effect on a smaller scale , I have bought one and will assay to increase stocks with cuttings next year .
Have a super weekend , do n’t leave to contain back in as more link are added during the day .
I ’ll be back next week with another # SixOnSaturday .
