I like Japanese sea anemone , I have the ‘ honorine jobert ’ variety . I ’ve had them a good 10 years , in two clumps . I would like them to spread a little but they are quite pig-headedly well behaved – too well behaved ! Back in mid November I resolved to take subject into my own hands . Nipponese anemone are one of a relatively small group of plants that reply well to steady down cut . I initially attempt to dig down the side of a works and chop a bit of root away but in the final stage I just sacrifice one of the plant life , grind it up . I took it to the shed and trimmed away all but the root sections .
Then it is a case of cutting up the root into fairly short sections , recall to keep caterpillar track of which agency is up . The top of each section is where the Modern maturation will come , the bottom is where the new roots will fare . imbed the right way up is thus essential !
It looks like some kind of elfin runes . What can it be trying to say ? “ sweet jaques ” , it look like .
I used quite a coarse-grained compost mixture , filling a half - size of it germ tray , then poked each section of rootage in so that the top just sit at the floor of the compost . Once they were all arrange up , a light tearing , then into the heated work bench they went .
In quite short order , about a month , new growth appears out of the top . Encouraging though this is , one must n’t celebrate too presently . There are unbelievable to be roots this apace , there is enough energy in the original root sections to power a minute of top growth for a while .
Almost 3 months after aim the cuttings we have quite a bit of action up top .
I am painfully tempted to tip these out and pot them on , but I resist . I do n’t yet see any root coming through the holes in the tray , and moreover , there really is no rush . I will result them be till bound has sprung . Probably …
