Vincent van Gogh and sunflowersLike many of his coevals , Vincent van Gogh delighted in painting flowers . Yet he was one of the few to cat sunflowers as the protagonists in several of his floral composition . Compared to traditional , dark bloom still lifes , his Sunflowers are explosion of gloss . Also unusual is that he draw not only bloom in full blooming , but also wither flowers , which he plant beautiful in the same way that a brave face may be beautiful . For Vincent , sunflower were also especially meaningful as symbols of inspiration , friendship and gratitude .
