A couple of day ago I posted on mango propagation and how I am develop mango from seed .

And looking disoriented .

I ’m not really bewildered , though , I just play a disjointed mango seed grower on YouTube .

Here ’s how I ’m starting mango seeds :

I ’ve got a heavy stilt of mango pits on my counter right now , handle with fruit flies . They take to be clean and planted .

The end ? To grow lot and lots of mango in lookup of a better smorgasbord . With lots of seedlings , I also get the prospect todo extreme pruningwithout any loss .

As I have been researching mango generation over the last week , I have come across some interesting choice morsel .

Long ago I read that polyembryonic Mangifera indica pit will grow true to type whereas monoembryonic mango pits do not .

It ’s quite interesting to seewhy the polyembryonic seeds produce true - to - eccentric trees :

“ Poly - embryonic seeds produce a number of shoot , one of which originates from fertilisation . The fertilised seedling is often weak and stunted and should be toss . The other seedlings are clones of the mother tree . ”

They are clon . That is something I did not recognise . I think perhaps they were more like heirloom seeds , where the genetics are close enough from individual to individual that you get the same character of plant , class after yr . I did n’t realize it was the exact same type .

This is great , because there is a variety show of mango tree from Trinidad that I quite savour , cognise as “ Starch , ” which is polyembryonic . The story gets better , though , because polyembryonic Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree are capable of fruit in as small as two years from seed .

The video authorwrites on his web log :

“ When I place a television showing that my Mangifera indica Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree develop from seminal fluid had bring forth fruits in just 2 age , there was lot of reactions from the viewing audience . They were of the view that it was not possible to get fruits from a mango tree tree so quickly , and my tree must have been a engraft Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . But it is really true that the mango tree can raise fruits in 2 to 4 year , if they have been grown from a poly - embryonic seed . The mango tree tree arise from poly - embryonic germ do not need to be transplant . ”

The secure Mangifera indica are generally the monoembyonic eccentric , which I assume is because they are able-bodied to be bred and cross easier than the polyembyonic type ; however , the variability of seedlings have in mind that they ’re not going to all be outstanding . You ’ll get some successes and some nonstarter .

Sounds like treasure search ! It ’s a great reason to plant oodles of seeds and see what happen .

And if you maturate a Mangifera indica from a fossa and it does n’t change by reversal out well , hey – it ’s clock time to graft !

That ’s enough for today . The mango pits on the counter really need tending .
