Garden scenes in an unusual year of weather
My name is Linda Corinaldi . This is my 2nd year sending my photograph to you ( former C. W. Post is here : Putting Down source , at Last ) . In a normal year here in West Vancouver , British Columbia , we have summers with pleasant temperatures , never very live . This summer we had high temperature like the West Coast has never feel before . Some of our plants reacted by doing odd thing . Plants that I expected to burn were all right , while tropicals that I felt would be glad with the heat burnt to a Saratoga chip .
Last year I brand this thought with broken-down wooden gate . This year here is the same view but with black smoothing iron gate . The same garden pink hydrangeas(Hydrangea macrophylla , Zones 5–9 ) are on either side of the gate .
Clematis‘Warsaw Nike ’ ( Zones 4–9 ) makes a wonderful show climbing on the fencing .

ThisPhormium‘Yellow Wave ’ ( zona 9–11 ) produced three efflorescence stubble this year — a courteous surprise ! The planter on the wall once housed a clock . It is planted up withsucculents .
I took a chance and result theseCanna‘Louis Cotton ’ bulbs in the ground last winter in a south - facing location close to the house . We are in Zone 8 . They have spring up tall than the star sign this yr . hummingbird love the flowers.(Cannavary in hardiness by potpourri but often will winter outside in Zones 8 and warmer . )
A assortment of greens and yellows make this container almost radiate . Phormium‘Yellow Wave’,Fatsia‘Spider Web ’ ( Zones 7–10 ) , and Nipponese forest grass(Hakonechloamacra , Zones 5–9 ) are boast .

Containersare my favorites . This one has a Canna ‘ Tropicana ’ , coleus(Solenostemonscutellarioides , Zone 11 ) , and ‘ Blackie ’ sweet Solanum tuberosum vine(Ipomoeabatatas‘Blackie , Zones 10–11 or as an annual ) .
I consider the colors in this planter — which containsPhormium‘Mat ’s Merlot’,Colocasia‘Black Coral ’ ( Zones 9–11 ) , andTradescantiazebrina(Zones 9–11)—complement each other .
By the end of summer these Japanese bananas(Musabasjoo , Zones 6–10 ) are as grandiloquent as the maple tree diagram .

An azalea in full bloom offer a punch of color in a sea of mixed fleeceable and bronze shrubs .
At the end of our private road , in front of a largeAucubashrub(Aucubajaponica , Zones 7–10 ) , is an interesting combining of texture . In front there is creeping Jenny(Lysimachianummularia , Zones 3–9 ) combine two wraith of green . Behind that is a rowing of sedge(Carex‘Toffee Twist ’ , Zones 7–10 or as an yearly ) . On the left side is aEuonymusgold shrub(Euonymusjaponica‘Aureomarginata ’ , Zones 6–9 ) , to the rightfulness is aHosta(Zones 3–9 ) and aSkimmiashrub(Skimmia japonica , Zones 6–8 ) , and in the middle is a bear ’s breaches(Acanthusmollis , Zones 6–10 ) andAeonium‘Zwartkop ’ ( Zones 9–10 ) in a container .
