In a Vase on Monday. Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus.

St. David ’s Day marks the end of the wintertime and what an interminable one it has been this twelvemonth . But after a weekend of sun , exciting and beautiful things are happening in the garden .

But to celebrate St. David ’s Day and the advent of March today ’s vase has to have Narcissus pseudonarcissus , which accord to the Bard‘come before the swallow dares and take the nothingness of March with stunner ’ . I could n’t have put it well myself .

To inclose my vase here is my grand- wiener , Hector who no longer gets to drop every Tuesday helping me to dig the garden . Lovely Beatrice has captivate his soulful face beautifully .

The earliest daffodil in the garden is ‘ Rijnveld ’s Early Sensation ’ . It is a tall daffodil with a large cornet and it commence blooming in January . It is still going strong and tide us over until the main March ones get going .

Another too soon - blossom daffodil is ‘ Spring Dawn ’ and I love this one , it has wan stinker cups and a creamy white perigone .

But perhaps my favored early- flowering daffodil in the garden is the kickshaw ‘ February Gold ’ which does n’t loll about as ‘ Rijnveld ’s Early Sensation ’ sometimes does , but who can blame it after a week of snow ? But ‘ February Gold ’ came into bloom after the blow and it remain firm up beautifully direct and has lovely swept back out petals .

To go with these other daffodil I used some Summer Snowflakes , Leucojum aestivumwhich always bloom in winter despite the name . I have clumps of this all over the garden and although it is not dramatic it is useful for vas . The drama is in the sinister- looking black hook of the puss willow tree , Salix melanostachys .

It is nice to start off the month with flower from the garden but there is something worth celebrating in the greenhouse too . It is my buck’s fizz , Acacia deabaltawhich is in full bloom and filling the air with its warm , powdery olfactory property . The redolence takes me right back to the south of France where we spent one magical February roaming the mimosa forests of the Massif du Tanneron .

I know that mimosa can become invasive in certain mood and indeed it has become so in the south of France where it threatens the native flora . But here in Suffolk it rarely survives outside although I have from time to time seen it flourish in sheltered corners . Mine lives in a pot in the unheated greenhouse . I am going to have to give it a brusque back and sides or it will have to take its chance outside next year . But there is no chance of it becoming a pain here . I snipped a morsel for today ’s IAVOM and put it in an old ink pot .

The lemony yellowness is a staring match for the daffodil .

I see that Cathy fromRambling in the Gardenwho hosts in a ‘ Vase on Monday ’ has found herself looking towards springtime too with some former daffodils . So do go and see . What a lovely and appropriate manner to celebrate springtime and for me it is a probability to say Happy Birthday to my Welsh friend , David who was appropriately enough take over on St. David ’s day . Plen - blwydd hapusDavid . And a veryhapusday to everyone now that March is here with all its flowered delight .

I love the daffodil and the Acacia . I wish I had a speckle for the latter . I wonder if it could survive my horrid back side …

What a beautiful illustration of your dog and the Narcissus pseudonarcissus . And the mimosa is fabulous . moony …

Oh the sunny and warm spell has certainly made everything excite in the garden Chloris although I still think of this time of year still has some vindictive surprisal in store for us . ‘ Spring Beauty ’ is most beguiling and I ’m off to notice out more about her especially height . She looks quite small and delicacy in those photos . I go for that Hector can resume his position as your faithful under gardener before long .
