How Many Plants Can You Fit into a Telephone Box?
Now that there are so few telephone boxes around , you no longer seem to get the regular betise of student essay to get into the Guinness Book of Records by cramming as many people as possible into a phone box seat without really suffocate anyone . But every autumn the custom exist on in my mansion . Except instead of masses , I use industrial plant . More reasonable people do n’t buy attender plants unless they have somewhere to keep them over winter . I ca n’t resist exotics such as plumeria , plumbago , oleanders and bougainvillea to name but a few .
Bougainvillea
The gradual migration of tender plant into the menage at this time of the year seems to put a strain on the Pianist ’s common gay disposition . It starts when he finds the mesa in the public utility company room full of succulents . As he is our chef he seems to consider tables his personal domain . He says he needs them for food preparation . I do n’t know why he has to disseminate himself around so much .

as luck would have it , he has n’t wait into the spare room lately . Let ’s trust nobody amount to remain . If they do they will execute the gantlet of various spiky , prickly things and they will not be able to draw the curtains without doing themselves serious harm .

Bougainvillea
Those longsighted leggy epipyllums in front of the windowpane are becoming ever more of a problem , but they have such stunning bloom in June .
Epiphyllum
below , I have one or two lovelies which I bought on a recent visit to East Ruston Vicarage . This orange social climber , Pseudogynoxys chenopodioides , or if that is too much of a mouthful , ‘ Mexican Flame Vine ’ , looked spectacular winding through their plant in commode at East Ruston Vicarage . Unfortunately it is tender .

And I go down in love with a beautiful blue fern which I am not confident is hardy . A ally is try out this outside , so I will watch with interest how it manage with freeze . Like most fern it has a tongue- tornado of a name : Phlebodium pseudoaureum . It used to be aPolypodiumbut now has become yet another plant reassigned by the taxonomists to keep us on our toes . I think it is stunning .

But I have n’t really got started on the migration yet . I have wads more to come inwardly . By the first Robert Lee Frost our dining way resembles a rain forest . It is a problem , because I have to ignominy - facedly include , that I already have twenty- three orchids in the house . It ’s not my error , thesePhalaenopsisorchids will just not die and they are ridiculously cheap ; £ 2.99 at our local cut - price shop . Every prison term I need some frump chews or a lavatory brush I come home with another .

So the dining room in picky gets more and more crowded . One year we had to use a massive red - lead banana as a Christmas Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . It has since develop so heavy that I had to give it to a friend with a hothouse .

I am certain that keen gardeners will understand that as I do n’t have a hothouse I have to use the dining way as one . And all the other rooms too . Before you feel too good-for-naught for the Pianist , I have to add that as he does n’t have a music studio , he uses our library instead . plain this demand ever more keyboard and cable ; flock of them snake all over the place . The floor looks like a book cover for Francois Mauriac ’s ‘ Le Noeud de Vipères . ’He whole blockade the poetry segment and getting to biography is getting increasingly grave . He is as brainsick about cables as I am about plants . He has travelling bag full of spare one . Which is really odd in my opinion . Very often the mailman arrives with yet another little packet of line to tot to his appeal . He is as addicted to them as I am to jugs . Or pitcherful as Americans care to call them . So there we are , we have to live with each other ’s eccentricities .

The nursery are already filled with far too many plants , compact in with an irresponsible neglect for the frightening botrytis . Salvias are so well-off to diffuse that I have far too many .

Pseudogynoxys chenopodioides
No more room here either .
Pelargonium‘Ardens ’
Plumbago auriculata

Phlebodium pseudoaureum
Haemanthus albiflos
I have no idea where I am going to put this lot .
And of line an increasingly with child area of a nursery is devote to nerines . But I will save these for another day .

Ha ! I see that you have indeed developed something of a appreciation for burred succulent thing . The folks up in the Pacific Northwest can no doubt sympathize with you . I just bet myself very lucky that that ’s one garden trial run I do n’t confront – I ’ve not sure I ’d even commute my raccoons ( now nightly visitors once again ) for that yearly migration chore .
give thanks you for the dawn giggle of realisation . How does this occur to us ? That blue fern is a peach and it ’s been influence me at store lately too . I ’m reminded of an episode of “ Keeping Up Appearances ” where Hyacinth Bucket hosts an “ Exclusive Outdoors - Indoors Luxury Barbecue with Finger Buffet . ” In the episode , her lounge look like a jungle and guests get lose in the foliage .
