Exploring a beautiful public garden
We ’ve visited Susan Esche ’s house garden before ( A Garden Wedding , the Flowers , and the Deer ) , but today she ’s choose us along to visit a public garden in Vancouver , British Columbia .
I was able to tour the beautifulUniversity of British Columbia Botanical Gardenin Vancouver in earlySeptember . The garden contains awoodland garden , avegetable garden , a “ physics ” garden of medicinal plants , and analpine garden . It is located adjacent to the campus and is open to the world .
ThePacific Northwestis home to vast , beautifultrees . Here you’re able to get a glimpse of ahydrangeatucked into the lush greenery and behind this monumental trunk .

I call back the hydrangea isHydrangeaaspera(Zones 7–9 ) .
The large blooms on the outside of the heyday chief aresterile , acquire no seeds ; they just serve as advertising topollinators . The center is made up of hundred of tiny fertile flowers that will grow the actual pollen and , finally , seeds .
aboriginal blade ferns ( Polystichummunitum , Zones 6–9 ) flourish in the recondite shade of the woodland garden . Theseevergreen fernsare an iconic part of the native woodlands along the western coast of North America .

Kirengeshomakoreana(Zones 5–8 ) has bold leafage all summertime , but it really shines inlate summerand tumble when these beautiful , waxy yellow flowers issue .
These trees have grown on the rot ambo of another tree . Another bold sword fern shines in the front .
The vegetable garden demonstrate how a garden can be both eatable and beautiful . Colorful stem turn of Swiss chard ( Betavulgaris , unremarkably produce as an annual ) echo the shining , edible flowers of genus Nasturtium ( Tropaeolummajus , Zones 9–11 or as an one-year ) .
