A life-long gardener continues to tend the land that raised her, while creating peace and beauty with new and old plants
Hi GPODers !
While most of us in the Northern Hemisphere are reckon down the days until spring in conclusion arrives next month , our neighbors to the Confederacy are start to say sayonara to summertime . As many of us look out to C. P. Snow and ice , we head Down Under to chew the fat Gabrielle Sheppard in Dondingalong , New South Wales , Australia . locate on the easterly coast ( about half means between Sydney and Brisbane ) Gabrielle ’s lush landscape is a beautiful taste of what garden in the Southern Hemisphere look like right now .
My garden is situated on the mid N seacoast west of Kempsey , in Dondingalong on 3 acre . I ’ve last here my whole living and started gardening from a untested age with my mother as a piddling fille . I have various plants in my garden and have latterly plant over 20 dissimilar variety of trees , bush and succulents .

I also planted a Japenese maple tree earlier this year as our first daughter ’s mediate name is Maple and the name of the tree holds a especial place in my bosom . I think how beautiful the leaves will look on it when the time of year alter . I just call back they are so beautiful , so of course it had to make out home with me . I have also planted magnolias , flame trees(Brachychiton acerifolius , Zones 9–11),blue cypress pine(Callitris columellaris , Zones 9–12)and lavender to attract plenty of bees not to mention mickle of others . I have a quite a little of different coloured pigfaces(Carpobrotusglaucescens , Zones 8–11)that always put a grinning on my face when I go out into the garden and they have open up and show their beautiful vibrant semblance inside them . A big statement piece to the garden is the cycad that has been planted for 30 + years . It is massive and simply secern it own story .
A few month ago I had an image of making my own archway , so I determine to make the figure of speech become a reality and made my own arch in the garden and paint it . I ’ve now planted two climb pandorea plants(Pandorea jasminoides , Zones 9–11)that I hope that one day they climb over the archway . in person , I get satisfaction from sitting back , looking at the garden and what I have fulfill , and saying “ I did that ” at the conclusion of the daytime . horticulture means so much to me — it ’s calming , reposeful , and truly pleasurable . When I ’m in the garden , I draw a blank my trouble and focus on my flora . I hope you get inhalation to go our into your garden more after seeing mine .
Regards , Gabrielle

It ’s easy to see that Gabrielle has been hard at study ! While the garden is already lush and green with chummy plantings in perimeter bed , many of the young trees that were planted are mulched , staked and quick for years of development .
This open sweep will finally become way more shady and individual ( although it does n’t search like Gabrielle involve to worry about chirrup neighbour ) .
Throughout Gabrielle ’s landscape painting are various statues that add elegance , art , and personality to the garden . Some also provide the opportunity for more planting , like this bird bath and its colourful assemblage of succulents .

Around the base of the bird bathing tub a humble compendium ofgauraadds some more colour .
Another statue becomes a focal point , and even experience a vine for a scarf joint .
I ’m take over this is the cycad that Gabrielle mentioned in her introduction is over 30 years old ! Often misguided for palms , cycad are actually more tight related to conifer and have a engrossing chronicle that predates homosapiens . cycad were once institute in teemingness across the globe , back when dinosaurs rove the earth . They are now extremely rare in the wild , but in the garden they make a huge statement while reminding us of the evolution of our major planet .

The realism Gabrielle created from her pixilated vision ! On both sides you may see the vernal pandorea plant in position to continue the archway . Also bed as ‘ pergola vine ’ , pandorea is a woody , evergreen plant mounter with stunning trumpet - forge peak .
A swing over workbench to sit and enjoy the garden will become even lovelier when the fresh planting grow in around it !
One last statue on an flowery pillar and surrounded by riotous greenery .

Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful photos of your garden with us , Gabrielle ! It always optic - opening to see what grows on the polar terminal of the world , from the intimate to the never - been - seen - before .
