Lack of sun doesn’t stop this gardener
Today we ’re visiting Nancy Moore ’s backyard to see what she ’s create in a unmanageable , shady spot .
These photos of our umbrageous backyard go from most recent ( May 5 , 2019 ) back to early springtime ( April 15 , 2019 ) . We live in Charlottesville Virginia , and I have been gardening for more than 20 age — but I have only started knowing what I was doing about three yr ago , after I took the Master Gardener class . I have had to focus on shade plants and acquire by trial and error — more error than not . In fact , when somethingdoesturn out well I am shocked ! I rely onTaylor ’s Guide to Shade Gardeninga lot , and I spend a lot of time at flora nursery .
Nancy put in this nicety garden last summertime because she was sick of looking at a skinny grunge - packed lawn . She says , “ The whole sorry experience was pretty awful , ” but the final outcome count pretty astonishing !

Another sight of the new subtlety garden arena , face pretty great for what used to be a weedy lawn .
Nancy ’s garden is wall by huge oak tree trees , so she choose plants that would boom in those circumstance . The tulip bring nice points of counterpoint gloss to the green .
White flower issue from a foamflower ( Tiarellacordifolia , Zones 4–9 ) , a native wildflower that bonk shade and blooms in the outflow .

What is spring without some tulip ?
The curve pink flower stems of bleeding heart ( Dicentraspectabilis , Zones 4–9 ) does good in umbrageous condition . In red-hot , teetotal summer , it will go dormant later in the summertime , leaving an empty space , but in cool , well - watered gardens , the foliage can keep count good all summertime long .
A beautiful archway surrounded by flowers welcome visitant to the garden .
