Paradise for gardener and pollinator alike

We ’re back for another day in Lila Johnson ’s garden northwards of Seattle .

I ’ve been a gardener for 52 years , but I just plant , prune , deadhead prime , fertilize and water , and accept whatever hap , teach a bit as I go .

I grew up loving flowers , mostly annuals , alongside my mom : odorous peas , geranium , tuberous begonias , fuchsias , petunias , impatiens , and a wonderfulJasmine officinalethat was n’t supposed to grow here in our clime . My mom was chip in a genus Funka from a novel neighbor who bring it with her from Minnesota , so I had an former exposure to hostas even though they are not an yearly . However , it took me a while to like their spiky flowers . My mamma would be amazed at all the hosta variety useable today .

So truthfully I am a lover of flowers , having planted for summer color most of those 52 year . Since joining my local garden gild almost 10 class ago , I have get a line to squeeze perennials — hence the butterfly / bee garden with no use of chemical substance .

This is heaven for any butterfly stroke or bee in the neighborhood ! Yellow Achillea millefolium ( Achilleasp . , Zones 4–8 ) is backed by purple coneflower ( Echinacea purpurea , Zones 3–9 ) and other favorite perennials for pollinators .

And the butterflies are happy to visit ! Here a swallow-tailed coat takes a sip from an agastache ( probablyAgastache foeniculum , Zones 4–11 ) .

Of vulgar jasmine ( Jasmine officinale , Zones 7–10 ) , Lila say , “ It reminds me of summer evening , and as a untested missy I would gather a sprig of jasmine in my tomentum . Now on a warm summertime evening in our backyard , the intoxicating fragrancy of our jasmine is quite delicious . ”

shut - up of the jasmine flowers . you’re able to almost reek them through the screen .

Speaking of fragrance — Oriental lily ( Lilium‘Stargazer’,Zones 3–8 ) !
