Barbara Weiler ’s southern California garden is a capital good example of how to prosper during a drought .
" My garden on 1 1/2 Acre in San Diego County has undergone major change due to the on-going drouth and piss restrictions . Four age ago I started planting succulents in areas with no irrigation and they are all thriving . Winter starts the long bloom season for Aloes , which produce bright colour blossom that pull in hummingbirds . I leave the flower still hunt on the plants to dry , and then comprise them in creative flowered pattern . woefully , I have lose many plants and trees due to stress from utmost heat ( over 100 degrees ) and 5 years of drouth . I am replacing them with drought broad California native , many Australian plants and succulent .
Our house model in the midsection of a gently splash property and I have created a series of expectant garden beds connected by nerve pathway . There is no lawn . Everything is heavy mulched and the whole garden is organic - no pesticide or chemical fertilizer . My biggest problem , besides the want of water system , are gophers , snails and soil pathogens . "
