Betsy doesn’t let rocky soil or deer stop her from creating a beautiful spot

Today ’s office comes from Betsy Thompson of East Greenbush , N.Y.

My garden is located in front of and behind a suburban townhouse near Albany , N.Y. , situated in the middle of a six - home building . I shared word-painting of it on this sitesome years ago , but all garden evolve into a somewhat new smell , so I thought it may still be of some interest .

I have survive here for 37 years . There are on-going problems with the site : I am not permitted to raise a fence , so struggle with wildlife increase every twelvemonth , as cervid and other populations increase and tell all their friends about the exceptional delight of the unique buffet available here . Also , when I arrived there was nearly no topsoil on the primer and no approach for vehicles to provide it , so it all had to be carried through the sign of the zodiac . Underneath , I ground rubble from an era when a glacier had recede — rocks of all sizes and SHAPE , pear-shaped and sharp , cemented together by sand that yielded only to a pickax .
